On Monday 12 December, in the College’s final Whole School Assembly of the Autumn Term, Head of Art Miss Keli Jiggens announced the winners of the recent Whole School Mini Sculpture competition.
The 'Mould It' competition was the second art competition of the term, following on from the Black and White Art and Photography competition.
‘Mould It’ was split into two categories, with winners and runners up from both the pupil and staff bodies.
Over the half term, many students and staff kept themselves busy sculpting for this challenge. The Art Department received many amazing entries from trees to crocodiles, and from super heroes to flowers. It was also fantastic to see many entries from not just those who pursue art as a subject at the College.
To choose the winners, each sculpture was judged by the Headmaster. In the Whole School Assembly, Mrs Jiggens read out the names for each winner to come up and receive their prize and a handshake from Mr Howe.
On the pupil side, third place went to Year 7’s Mo Britton and Seb Harrison for their combined efforts in sculpting a crocodile. In second place was Luka Suyatin of Year 8 for his space cat sculpture. And, in first place, was Year 10’s James Man, who sculpted Batman.
From the staff, third place was awarded to Mrs Lesley Spiers for her sculpture of a turquoise puffer fish. Second place went to Mrs Katie Neill and her purple dinosaur and hatchling. And, for his flowers in a pot sculpture, first place was awarded to Mr Darren Cheshire.
Overall, the order by house for the Mini-Sculpture Art Competiton was as follows:
- Orchard
- Skipwith
- Welsh
- Burr
- Everett
Well done to everyone who took part and combined creativity with tenacity in their work! We can’t wait for the next competition to see what incredible art it will bring...
