In today's Sports Report, we catch up on last weekend's Reading Regatta as well as the latest cricket matches which includes block fixtures against The Oratory School. Boys’ U15B vs The Oratory School

Shiplake’s U15Bs were back in action against The Oratory School with an opportunity for redemption after a heavy defeat a fortnight ago. The Shiplake team was again led by S Pickering. The Oratory won the toss and elected to bat.

After a solid start, E Chalfont was able to make the breakthrough with a superb catch. This was followed up by D Seraille bowling out a dangerous Oratory batter. C Kirkwood was involved in a couple of quick wickets with a run out and a great catch from D Seraille. Unfortunately, some wayward bowling allowed some quick runs from Oratory’s big hitter, and they finished on 149 for 6.

As we went to bat, this was the opportunity for Shiplake’s batters to banish the demons of the last game. After a couple of quick wickets, O Griffin continued his run of fine form to score freely. He was backed up by some solid batting from K Marsh. While these partnerships flourished, it was looking promising for Shiplake. Unfortunately, wickets fell and despite a belligerent knock by L Moore, Shiplake fell 29 runs short of victory.

Despite the loss, it was great to see so many boys seizing the opportunity to represent their school. They certainly gave Oratory a few more worries than last time. One game left in the season, against Pangbourne, to secure that elusive first win.
