Whole School

With today (Wednesday 20 September) being National Fitness Day, the whole College got throughout the day to promote healthy living, food, and exercise. This included the 10@10 challenge – doing 10 minutes of exercise at 10.00am where all pupils and staff took to Front and New Field for the challenge.

National Fitness Day 2023 is a chance to highlight the role physical activity plays across the UK, helping raise awareness of its importance in assisting us to lead healthier lifestyles. Exercise is great for burning calories and/or losing weight, but there are so many more benefits, especially for mental health.

Assistant Head (Pastoral) Mrs Fiona Dunn, who was leading on the initiative, said:

'National Fitness was fun and engaging. Pupils engaged in the 10@10 with the whole school out on the fields and lots of excellent cross curricular links taking place in lessons.

Healthy banana cake and smoothies at lunchtime helped highlight the ethos of healthy eating and diet and the pupils were keen to try the spinach, cucumber and melon smoothie - it was very nice despite the green colour!

Pupils are now more aware of the need to be active and were conscious of how much activity they had participated in throughout the day. It was a resounding success to increase awareness of the benefits of activity and exercise both physically, mentally and socially.'

Throughout the day, there were a plethora of activities going on and despite some being curtailed to bad weather, others went ahead in lessons, activities time, and lunchtime. These included:
