In our Monday Whole School Assemblies this term, we have been recognising those who have excelled in academic lessons, music, and sport. It was wonderful to see so many pupils recognised and the number of awards that have been handed out.

Academic 

Just before half-term, all our pupils received their Progress Review One – the first report of the academic year which for many pupils was their first report at Shiplake College. At this stage of the year, the most important aspect of the report is the Engagement with Learning scores which is essentially pupils’ academic effort. 

This category has nothing to do with grades or academic potential and every single pupil is capable of putting in the effort to score highly in this category. 

In a recent Whole School Assembly, Deputy Head (Academic) Mr Jones had the pleasure in announcing the names of the pupils in each year with the highest Engagement with Learning scores. Congratulations to the following:

In addition to the Engagement with Learning awards, we also recognised our senior mathematicians who had recently competed in UK Maths Trust’s (UKMT) Senior Mathematical Challenge. The problems on the Senior Maths Challenge are designed to make students think and it was wonderful to have so many of our pupils getting involved. Congratulations to the following:

Sport 

The Headmaster, Mr Howe, was delighted to announce that Sophie Pendlebury has been awarded an honorary sports scholarship for her fantastic attitude on and off the pitch. This includes her consistent demonstration of excellence as a sportswoman in football, hockey and netball, and her dedication to sport. She has been an excellent ambassador for girls’ sport and has been an exemplary role model, especially to those in Year 7.
