Criminology

On Thursday 23 May, 26 criminology and sociology Year 12 pupils enjoyed a day out in London where they sat in on criminal cases at Westminster Magistrates Courts in the morning, before having the wits scared out of them at the London Dungeon in the afternoon!

Year 12 pupil on the trip, I Davenport-Thomas, said, ‘It was a really cool trip. I found it very interesting to see live cases and sentencing in the court. I sat in on an assault case, which was fascinating to listen to.’

Another pupil, James Hyman, said, 'I had no idea what to expect from the courts. But it was so interesting. It was a good trip because we did two very different things: in the morning and the afternoon and the weather turned out nice.’

Lead Teacher for Sociology A-level and Criminology L3 Dip, Ms Magee, adds:

‘Westminster Magistrates Courts is a fascinating place for students. Because of the nature of the cases that are held there, it's a good opportunity for the pupils to see criminology and sociology in action outside of the classroom. The London Dungeon is scary, but fun, and adds to the experience with its representation of crime in London.’

Thank you to Ms Magee, Mrs Parrott, and Mr Gower who were the teachers that accompanied the pupils on the trip.
