On Thursday 16 May, we were treated to a wonderful performance of Bright Young Things by 20 of our Year 9 and 10 pupils. The show took place in the Tithe Barn for a 'one night only' performance and it was great to see a blend of new and experienced actors take to the stage!
Bright Young Things follows six young people who compete in a reality show to be crowned ‘Britain’s Brainiest Child’ to get their hands on the coveted Golden Brain Trophy. With each new round, the competition gets increasingly trickier, and the contestants are faced with questions they were never expecting.
Our talented group of pupils had been rehearsing twice a week to prepare for this performance. With a male only cast, this adapted version covers a wide range of themes from relationships and identity to self-doubt and trust.
Drama teacher, Miss Griffiths, says:
'I am so fortunate to have worked with a focussed group of students. Every rehearsal, we got further and further ahead than I had planned and that would not have been possible if the pupils had not arrived prepared and ready to do drama.
What also makes working with this group so much easier is the pure the love of drama each of them has; it completely oozes out of them. By giving the experience to the lead roles, this hopefully inspires those in Year 9 to take drama as a GCSE option, but also give the Year 10 drama pupils the opportunity to practise their craft which they can use in their GCSE drama lessons.'
