With the 2017/18 autumn term beginning this week, teachers at the college returned on the 30 August for staff inset. On Thursday morning all the teachers and staff at the college made their way to the Lecture Theatre for the Headmaster’s Address. This was opened with a prayer lead by Reverend Stephen Cousins. After the prayer, new staff had the opportunity to introduce themselves and this was then followed by various updates from members of staff.
Every year at the Headmasters address, Mr Davies provides a word or phrase of the year that he would like all members of staff to have in mind when carrying out their roles here at the College. This year was no different, and the Headmaster revealed that this year the phrase would be: ‘nullum est periculum mercedem non, (no risk, no reward)’. With the 2016/2017 year being incredibly successful for the College with records broken in both A Levels and GCSE results alongside various sporting successes throughout the year such as the performance in this year’s Henley Royal Regatta. This phrase has never seemed so right for Shiplake as all teachers and staff at the College strive to continue to make the environment here as best as it possibly can be for our pupils to develop.
Returning pupils have arrived and new pupils are now settled in and have been warmly welcomed by their housemasters and fellow pupils. Timetables are out and the school year is well and truly underway. There is a fantastic atmosphere throughout the School with the pupils well rested after their summer break and ready to fully embrace the challenges ahead within their educational opportunities both within and outside the curriculum.
