Last Wednesday afternoon saw nearly 150 boys take part in the annual Junior House Touch Rugby.

Among the few days of last week’s unexpected Indian Summer, as many as 143 boys trudged down to the Riverside pitches to battle it out for House Cup winners in the Junior House Touch Rugby Tournament.

Both Orchard and Skipwith Houses were split into two, owing to the large number of pupils. This often happens in House Sports. Skipwith is split into Wells-Furby and Eggar, while Orchard is split into Bevan and Lapping.

Following the round-robin format, each house faced off against the others to determine the winner. In both the A and B teams, Everett came out on top, and ended the day as the winners of the Junior House Rugby Competition. In second place was Wells-Furby and third place went to Welsh.

Director of Sport, Mr Griffiths said, “All of the boys from Years 9 & 10 enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of touch rugby in the sunshine last Wednesday. Each boy competed in either their house A or B team. Orchard and Skipwith were divided in half, so they made up four teams each. All of the staff thoroughly enjoyed refereeing and it was a very close contest. It was great to see so many of the boys involved and there were some amazing moments of skill and indeed sportsmanship. The boys scored some wonderful tries and on the whole, the games were played in the right spirit. Everett remained unbeaten in both their A and B teams and so were the deserved overall winners. Well done to all of the boys for taking part and thank you to all of the staff for their help!

Further thanks came from Director of Rugby, Mr Beckett, who said, "Well done to all players involved today, playing house rugby in the right spirit. Congratulations Everett taking top spot, this time around. I would like to say a public "thank you" to the coaches for refereeing and organising the event, without their expert refereeing the afternoon would not have been possible.”
