Rugby Awards 2022

At the end of the Autumn Term, our rugby teams gathered for the annual rugby awards presentations to mark and celebrate the end of the season. And while the annual Friday Night Lights fixture did not go ahead, there was still an opportunity to recognise each team's achievements and award a number of honours across the teams. 

For the 1st and 2nd XV, players and coaches gathered in the Great Hall on Thursday 8 December for a black-tie event consisting of dinner and an awards ceremony. The evening gave the senior teams a chance to look back at the season, and to celebrate the efforts of coaches and staff, as well as individual players who had excelled throughout the season. 

In his speech, Head of Rugby Mr Beckett, began by thanking the catering team not just for the evening, but for their work throughout the term in ensuring that everyone has a balanced diet and fuel for an excellent sports programme. Mr Beckett also thanked the grounds staff who keep the pitches in pristine condition. There was also a special mention for Mr Cottey who, in addition to working on the pitches, has helped with refereeing matches this year.

In addition to the awards for pupils, there was also recognition for coaches with Mr Burgess awarded Coach of the Year for his effort, enthusiasm, and energy. And, in the final speech of the night, Mr Dix and Mr Jones gave a special acknowledgement to Mr Brown, who had just completed his final season of rugby here at Shiplake ahead of his retirement.

The junior rugby teams held their awards ceremonies separately in the final week of the term.

There were also Rugby Colours awarded to Sam Baker, Milo Crane, Indigo Doherty, Ethan Fulton, Sammy Gibson, Jack Henshall, Bryn Lockwood. Kane O'Connor, and Harrison Terrington.

U15

There were also Rugby Colours awarded to Hamish Arnold, Alfie Cheek, Alex Kami-Hawkings, Thomas Lane, Zac McConkey, Angus Mullens, Fred Partridge, Ollie Perkins, Sam Pickering, Jake Scotchbrook, and Will Tavinor.

U16

There were also Rugby Colours awarded to Henry Benton, Crosby Burnett, Harrison Edwards, Finn Hawkes, James Lucking, Will Mason, J McFarlane, Will Rider, Lunn Spence, and Ben Stokes.
