Shiplake College's Year 9 pupils have been embarking on the Foundation Project Qualification to practice the research skills they will require for their GCSE studies. The boys have been supervised by Digital Learning Facilitator, Mrs Bayley, who provided the report below:
'Is it almost GCSE time for Year 9 already? Do they have the skills to independently research a topic? Can they verify their sources? Are they able to write a well-structured report?
The research project qualification this year enabled the pupils in Year 9 to develop their skills so that they can produce better quality course work when they start their GCSEs next year. This term they chose to work in teams of 4 or 5 and researched the history of Shiplake College. Some pupils chose to focus on the history of their boarding house and others chose to delve into the past of a Shiplake Sports Club. Teams then had to include at least two different sources (interview, books, websites) of information and had to work collaboratively to create a Google Slide of all their findings. Finally, the pupils had to create a visual display board and present their findings to staff and parents in The Great Hall. The boys were very creative in setting up their 'stalls' and spoke enthusiastically about their findings.
Teams 8 & 23 had very good visual displays and interacted exceptionally well with the audience.
The next FPQ Market Day will be held on the 7th December 2018.'
