Media Studies Academic

Friday 17 May saw the annual Shiplake Oscars take place, an event designed to showcase the work of Year 12 and Year 13 Media Studies students and a chance for others in the school to see what is done in the department.

The awards also recognise those who have demonstrated a range of film-making skills in their various coursework projects. A number of different film genres were shown, including a horror film about an evil book that possesses people, a social realism film focusing on a dysfunctional family and a psychological thriller exploring the effects of PTSD. The music video category included pop, hip-hop and indie rock music, whilst the videos utilised a range of performance and narrative ideas.

"This is always such a great event," said Mr Milburn, Head of Media Studies after the awards ceremony. "The standard of film making goes up year on year and it is very encouraging to see such creativity and enthusiasm among the media students. I hope that events like this inspire other students, who may be considering Media Studies as an option at Sixth Form, to pick up a camera and get creating!"
