Whole School

The whole school came together this morning for the first time since lockdown began in March in an act of solidarity to remember the fallen.

Our thanks goes to Mr Brown for organising a socially distanced remembrance day, with each year group standing in their bubbles on the Front Field.

It was a really poignant moment and a Remembrance Day which in itself will be remembered for many years to come.

Revd Chris Briggs, said: "In a break from tradition, we held today's Act of Remembrance on the Front Field, so pupils and staff could remain socially distanced.

"It allowed for us to reflect as a whole school community and pay our respects on this, the 80th year since the Battle of Britain.

"I would like to thank Mr Howe for his Ode of Remembrance, Christa Scott for laying the wreath and Elliot Jones for his flawless rendition of The Last Post."

Remembrance Sunday - 8 November 2020

This year for the first time, our Remembrance Sunday Service was aired via YouTube with contributions from the whole school community and special guests. The service also paid tribute to the men who lost their lives in The Battle of Britain which took place 80 years ago. Did you know the average age of a Battle of Britain pilot was just 21?

Revd Chris Briggs, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the number of people in the Shiplake Community who have viewed our Remembrance Sunday Service. It has now had more than 1,000 views and we have been touched by the feedback received.

“We wanted to create a service that included all sections of life at the school, and I really think we achieved that.

“My thanks goes to our preacher sermon from the Revd Squadron Leader Kevin Capelin-Jones the Chaplain of RAF Brize Norton, as well as the Choir and music staff, Jack Dag, Elliot Jones, the Chapel Wardens and all pupils and staff involved.”

The Rev was also involved in delivering the Remembrance Service with Revd Robert Thewsey for the Shiplake Parish and Elliot Jones played the last post in an outdoor service in the Shiplake Church Yard. Watch the service here.
