The Revd Chris Briggs would like to send out a heartfelt thank you to everyone in the Shiplake Community who ran, walked, cycled or swam every Saturday as part of the Shiplake Virtual Park Run to reach Kikunduku Primary School in Kenya and raise much needed funds to help sponsor eight pupils to attend secondary school.
The funds have been raised for the charity Gap Africa which works with and raises funds for schools in rural Kenya.
Shiplake College has a long connection with Gap Africa and in particular the primary school in Kenya, going all the way back to the mid-90s.
In total £4,087 has been raised so far during this fundraising drive which means we have raised enough to sponsor all eight children (one from each Shiplake House) and a little bit extra for special projects at the Kikunduku Primary School.
Our JustGiving Fundraising Page will remain open until Friday 26 February for any last minute donations. If the total of £5,000 is reached then the Rev has agreed to have ten buckets of icy water thrown over him by pupils on their return to school next month!
The Rev said: "I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated to the Kikunduku appeal. We have raised over £4,000 which is a massive effort during these difficult times."
Watch our video here with a thank you from The Rev and an excerpt from a video from when Shiplake visited Kikunduku a few years ago, to show how our support makes a real difference there.
