We were overwhelmed by the generosity of pupils, parents and staff following a request for donations for our Harvest Collection in aid of the Churches in Reading Drop-In Centre for the Homeless (CIRDIC).

Before half term, each House was asked to bring certain items that the drop-in centre could really use for their guests:

  • Burr: men's deodorant
  • College: men's underpants
  • Everett: socks
  • Gilson: shampoo and women's deodorant
  • Lower School: instant coffee and instant custard
  • Orchard: paper cups and kitchen roll
  • Skipwith: socks and long-life milk
  • Welsh: sugar and bottles of water

Last Friday all the items were collected by the College's Charity Committee and taken in person to CIRDIC. They were really appreciative of the College's generosity and in return, sent us this thank you note:

"Thank you for the fabulous donations you and the students delivered on Friday. We really do appreciate your kindness towards the poor and disadvantaged in our community. Please would you pass on our thanks to your students and those who donated, it will really go a long way to helping us meet some of our guests needs. Thank you for everything."

Revd Chris Briggs, School Chaplain, said: "The staff at the Reading Drop-In Centre were completely bowled over by the quantity of Harvest Gifts that you have donated to them. Every House really stepped up to this challenge and many produced more items than the number of pupils in the House.

"Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in responding to the needs of those who live on the streets in our area.  My thanks also to the members of the Charity Group and Chapel Wardens who helped to transport your gifts to the centre. Well done everyone."
