The 1st XV under the leadership of captain Henry Kunzig, played their eagerly anticipated Friday Night Lights fixture at Reading Rams RFC against local rivals Pangbourne College on Friday 10 December.
Despite a few hiccups with the floodlights not working, a change of pitch and later kick off, the players started strongly.
There was a great atmosphere with hundreds of supporters for both sides, willing their teams to do well and bag the much-needed points for their teams.
Throughout the game the Shiplake boys dominated both possession and territory, but it seemed they could not quite get the points on the board.
An early penalty from Pangbourne gave them a three point lead. Then just before half time, Shiplake held their line and broke through the Pangbourne defence, leading to a magnificent try from Jack Lynskey.
Later on in the second half, Lynskey scored another brilliant try. With three points from a penalty by Jed Blacknell, the final score was a win for Shiplake 13-8.
A huge well done to everyone involved and thank you to everyone who came out on a very cold night to show their support.
To commemorate the match and their time in the 1st XV, we produced a special programme for the fixture (available to download below). A highlights video will be released in the New Year.
