Two Year 13 leavers have recently returned from South Africa having been part of the U18 Lambs Rugby Tour Squad. Jake Cheetham (22W) and Henry Kunzig (22E) were both selected for the Lambs - the Independent Schools RFC. The 27 players from 15 different independent schools were on tour for 10 days, with the itinerary including three matches against other schools as well as activities such as surfing, a trip up Table Mountain and ending in a Game Drive.
The Lambs squad played against Western Provence Academy, Stellenberg High and Paarl Boys High and whilst they lost each match the played well and enjoyed the matches. Jake said of the tour: "The atmosphere and passion for every game is like our FNL! The amount of people who come to watch every game is completely different to England. The trip has given me a new perspective of rugby and the culture behind it. The experience over there was amazing, with the amazing scenery and culture all around at all times and every one was so kind and welcoming."
The selection process was a regional trail first and then Jake was selected to represent the south west at the national trials, where he played games against the north and midlands representative teams. After this he was selected for the tour squad and the game squad, out of around 60 players from all teams. Jake will be continuing his rugby through his gap year and playing for the Lambs Senior 7s 'Old Boys' team.
