In our first 'A Conversation With... ' of the summer term, we talk to Joint Head of College and Rowing Scholar, Casey Green. Casey talks about her passion for rowing and her pride in making Shiplake history at the Henley Royal Regatta last year. We also find out more about her plans for when she leaves Shiplake in the summer.

How long have you been a pupil at Shiplake and what are your roles?

I started Shiplake in September 2020 and will be sitting my A Levels this May/June. I am a prefect and Joint Head of College along with Jai Angell

What subjects are you studying and why?

I study Theology and Philosophy, Sport and Psychology. These subjects are the most enjoyable to me and sport is a big factor within my life as I am also a keen rower within the school.

What do you think is the best thing about Shiplake College?

It is difficult to name just one thing as I am lucky to have been given the opportunity to attend the school for two years, and have been involved in everything I could, but I would have to say the friendly and welcoming attitude from everyone. The students and all members of staff have paid a pivotal role in my time here. As a full time boarder, spending so many hours within the school, it has been important to feel included and comfortable in my surroundings.

What is your most memorable moment at Shiplake?

Again, with many memorable moments of Shiplake, one of the best ones is competing at Henley Royal Regatta and this year setting a legacy of being in the 1st girls' VIII and girls' 4+.

What have you got involved in as Joint Head of College that you are most proud of?

It has been an amazing and proud moment to represent the school on different occasions internally and externally. Especially the open mornings, Remembrance Sunday, visiting different schools along with meeting new people. These events offsite demonstrated professionalism and made me feel honoured to be given the chance to be involved and represent the school.

How have you enjoyed the rowing programme at Shiplake and what are you looking forward to most this year with your rowing?

Being offered a rowing scholarship has been an amazing opportunity at Shiplake. The programme and training has become part of my life here. I have been challenged, pushed and supported with a focus on being the best I can be.

My first year I did sculling in the Shiplake Girls' B quad winning at NAT schools, BRIT championships and then competing at Henley later on in that year.

This year brings new targets and I have been constantly learning new skills having recently won Gold in girls' coxed four rowing at Wallingford.

I am now really looking forward to competing at the National Schools' Regatta in May in a girls' coxed four, and hopefully competing at Henley once again.

I've been very fortunate to be involved with the high level of girls rowing while I have been at Shiplake.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

As mentioned previously, rowing is my main hobby but I also enjoy being on the water taking part in other water sports such as paddle boarding. My family and friends are important to me so I take time to socialise and relax with them.

What do you hope to do when you leave Shiplake?

As I am within my final few weeks at Shiplake I look forward to a relaxing summer, anticipating my A Level results in August. I hope to work for a while within the local area and continue my training and rowing. My ultimate plan for the future is to join the RAF. I am interested in various roles including personal training and logistics whilst hopefully continuing to row. I feel I have been extremely fortunate to have had lots of different experiences at Shiplake, I have learned so much and I will always be grateful for the time I have spent there.
