Geography

What makes the Chilterns unique? This was the question put to our Year 7 pupils on a recent geography field trip to Amersham to try and find out the answers.

The day involved all pupils undertaking environmental surveys exploring the new HS2 route through the Chilterns and as well as looking at the geography of Old Amersham.

They started the day with a walk to the hedgerow near the HS2 route where they did a biodiversity survey looking at the animals and plants.

Using their OS skills pupils then continued the walk to each site along our route exploring new areas. They soon discovered over the day why the Chilterns are unique and why they have been given an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) status. This then helped them understand the potential impacts of HS2 to this landscape.

The year group ended the five mile walk into Old Amersham where human geography was the focus. They highlighted types of buildings and looked at the types of shops in the village. Some students even had the courage to ask locals their view on HS2.

Head of Geography, Mr Jack Cooper, said: "The Year 7s did the school proud and learnt some valuable geography along the way."
