On Thursday 22 June, the Great Hall was transformed from a dining hall into an art gallery to showcase the fantastic artistic talent of our GCSE and A-level art pupils. There were displays on every wall, hanging from above, and placed on tables for all to enjoy - it was wonderful to welcome staff, pupils, and parents to gaze and marvel upon the work of our pupils.
Head of Art, Miss Jiggens, said the following:
'This is our favourite time of the year as it showcases the wonderful work of our Year 11 and Year 13 artists. The work this year is outstanding and incredibly refined, and a wide range of materials and skills has been used such as textiles, wire, ceramics, screen printing, drawing and painting. It was also incredibly exciting to have installations this year - Summer Reid's 'Fears and Phobias' room and Fred Fox's Ukraine tribute which consisted of a hanging glass installation.
This year was the first year that the art exam was reintroduced after the disruption of the pandemic and some of the work exhibited has been created independently in just 10 hours (GCSE) or 15 hours (A-level).
It was also wonderful to have so many A-level pieces inspired by our recent trip to Venice, and to also have such thoughtful work that reflects the poignant losses of The Queen, Grenfell Tower residents, and our own dear Rev.
On the night, we welcomed so many parents, grandparents, friends, staff and of course the proud students themselves. It was a wonderful way to celebrate two years of hard work!
A huge thank you must also go to Miss Platt and Mrs Brooks for all their help and time setting up the Art Exhibition.'
Before the exhibition, senior staff and the Art Department were all given a rosette to award to a student they felt deserved recognition for their hard work and amazing artistic talent. This year, the winners of the rosettes are:
