In our Whole School Assembly on Monday 11 December, we were delighted to announce the winners of this term’s College art competition – a Christmas Bauble Competition!
All members of the Shiplake community were invited to take part in designing a Christmas bauble in a theme inspired by any artist. As Year 13 pupil Monty Walker said at the launch of the competition, you could ‘unleash your inner Monet, your subconscious Emmin, your cheeky Banksy, your funky Hurst, or your powerful Picasso’ and that is certainly what everyone did.
In total, there were 86 entries with baubles coming in from both pupils and staff. Last week, Shiplake Governor Marsha Carey-Elms OBE judged all baubles which were split into staff and pupil categories.
The top pupils were:
- Polina Brown – detailed painting
- Arabella May – 3D Van Gogh inspired bauble
- Felix Greenway – Bob Ross inspired bauble
- Ollie Barron – Kandinsky inspired tissue paper bauble
- Lyra Jones – silver glitter and tree branches bauble
The top three members of staff were:
- Mr Adam – Romanian painting and sculpture inspired bauble
- Miss MacKenzie – detailed winter cottage scene
- Mrs Edimoh – smashed up cubist bauble
Speaking after the competition, Head of Art Miss Keli Jiggens said:
‘We were absolutely delighted to have such a large amount of the Shiplake community take part from Year 7 all the way to Year 13. It was also wonderful to have teachers, maintenance and support staff getting involved. It really highlighted the breadth of talent that we have here at Shiplake!’
All the baubles have been on display in Reception. A huge thank you must go to Mrs Julie Brooks for her time and attention to detail creating this wonderful display. And thank you to everyone who took part – it was so special seeing all the baubles on display.
'Do not hesitate. Do not dawdle. It’s time to bauble.'
