Boarders' Programme Events

Boarding is an integral part of life at Shiplake. Full, weekly or flexi-boarding allows pupils to fully benefit from all the academic and co-curricular opportunities that we offer.

Our boarders join from many parts of Britain, with approximately 5% coming from overseas. Together they make up a busy and vibrant community, who are proud to call Shiplake College 'home'. The College provides a programme of activities for evenings and at weekends, to ensure that they all live together happily, grow in confidence and achieve success and enjoyment in all aspects of boarding life. The Houses often arrange cultural and social events on Saturday evenings. Recent events have included Inter-House sports competitions, quizzes and cookery.

Friday nights are home to a variety of different activities, often combining pupils from across the houses. An inter-house boarding quiz event was hosted by Burr House just last week, with Mr Richard Ebbage comparing, and Everett House invited as the opposition. The pupils split into teams across the Houses, ready to tackle the challenging quiz.

The quiz consisted of three rounds: General Knowledge, Music and a Picture Round. General knowledge covered topics ranging from Geography to Politics to contemporary literature; no stone was left unturned and the boys found their knowledge tested! The music part of the quiz was no walk in the park either; questions covered classical and popular music as well as bands from bygone eras. The picture round was based on flags, and pupils had to determine from which country they came-no mean feat! After a tough competition between the teams from the two houses, the final scores were incredibly close. The winning group won chocolates-a welcome sugar-rush after the perplexing questions!
