Over the Easter break some of our rowers took part in GB trials and we held a successful Easter Camp. We also saw an encouraging finish in the Oxford City Bumps. In cricket, our first XI took part in a brilliant pre-season tournament at Eastbourne.

Rowing

In GB trials held in Nottingham, J Weir finished 9th in her single. M Johnston and S Critchley finished 9th in their pair. F Middleton and E Dallas finished 13th. All these rowers should qualify for final trials being held after Henley Regatta.

The Easter Camp was a success with training sessions being held at Dorney Lake, Leander and at home at Shiplake. All crews benefited from the training camp and now look forward to the regatta season starting this weekend.

On the weekend a crew of O Joiner, G Elliott, T Houghton, N Summerfield and L Swinburne-Johnson raced in the Oxford City Bumps and finished 3rd in Division 1.

Cricket

The 1st XI took part in a pre-season tournament at Eastbourne and got off to a brilliant start with J Angell scoring 180 not out against Dulwich College. We think this could be the highest individual score ever by a Shiplake pupil and a great start to his season. We were in a strong position to win the game as we scored 279 in 40 overs and Dulwich were 51/3 when unfortunately rain stopped play.

Day two saw a win against Eastbourne College which saw O Stalder score 49 and take 2 wickets. We then had a narrow loss against Dauntseys and on day 3 there was a convincing win for Bradfield over our team.

All in all it was a really competitive, positive experience which will hopefully whet our cricketers’ appetites for the fixtures this term.
