Shiplake's Micro-Masterpieces!

In the final Whole School Assembly of the Autumn Term, Head of Art Miss Jiggens announced the winners of the recent Whole School Miniature Canvas Art Competition. 

Pupils, teachers and support staff were encouraged to bring out their inner Picassos using their imagination to create mini masterpieces on a 10cm x 10cm canvas. 

The rules were straightforward; everyone was invited to paint, draw, print, stitch, knit, collage or add a photograph onto their mini canvas. In total, 114 canvases were entered across four different categories. 

Two of Shiplake's Governors were then invited to judge the entries ahead of the announcement of winners. Our thanks go to Marsha Carey-Elms OBE and Piers Rake who viewed all the anonymised canvasses, arranged within their respective categories. 

Congratulations to the following pupils and staff for their award-winning canvases under the judging categories: 

  • KS3 Winner: Arabella May (Year 8)
  • KS3 Runners Up: Felix Greenway (Year 8) and Charlie Hodgson (Year 7)
  • KS4 Winner: R Stewart (Year 10)
  • KS4 Runners Up: Charles Peng (Year 10), Alex Bowater-Rubio (Year 10), and Will Smith (Year 11)
  • KS5 Winner: Rufus Goggins (Year 13)
  • KS5 Runners Up: Freya Dix (Year 12), Bethany Redston (Year 12), Flo Rait (Year 12), and L Fiddy (Year 12) 
  • Staff Winner: Mrs Hall, Estates Manager  
  • Staff Runners Up: Miss Povey, English; Mr Shaw, Psychology  

All the canvases are currently hanging in the Great Hall for all to enjoy. It’s fantastic to see so many unique designs and styles, all showcasing the artistic talent flowing through the College!
