Shiplake College hosted the 5th annual Primary and Prep Schools Kwik Cricket Festival on Friday 6 June. The event is organised in partnership by the College and coaching specialists Performance Cricket for the local community, children and schools to enjoy.

The schools taking part were: Trinity Primary, St Mary’s Prep, Valley Road Primary, Sacred Heart Primary (Henley); Nettlebed Primary; Crazies Hill Primary (Wargrave); Churchend Primary, Geoffrey Field Primary (Reading); Hemdean House Prep (Caversham) and Shiplake Primary.

With 10 schools entering 12 teams, over 100 boys and girls were able to enjoy a full morning of cricket in a format of round robin league matches. Thereafter, the tournament featured a knock out stage and finals.

A keenly contested and competitive final resulted in Shiplake Primary Bulls winning the trophy for the first time defeating Trinity Kites by 198 points to 109. The final’s star performers, Oliver Doyle and Henry Scrimshaw-Wright, led the way for Shiplake Bulls with excellent all-round bowling and batting performances.

This year’s cricket festival benefitted from additional support by local business Invesco Perpetual. All children taking part received a medal courtesy of their generous sponsorship. Commenting on the success of the event, Head Cricket Professional at Shiplake College, Chris Ellison, said “a huge thank you must go to Richard Evans (Head Groundsman) and his team of staff for preparing such a fantastic facility for the children to enjoy. On this day of deep significance we must pay thanks and remember those who have helped create this opportunity for us to enjoy cricket with family and friends.”

Chris went on to thank the students at Shiplake College for their help with umpiring and scoring duties. We were delighted to host the event and welcome all the teachers, parents, family and friends who came along to support their children.

Coaching work in local primary schools is delivered through Henley Cricket Club’s community coaching programme with support from Invesco Perpetual, Berkshire Cricket and Chance to Shine. More information can be found on the Performance Cricket website.
