We've had a brilliant weekend of rowing, ahead of Henley Royal Regatta, with the boys at Marlow Regatta and the girls at Henley Women's Regatta, including the girls' quad who retained the Bea Langridge trophy for the second year in a row. In cricket the Lower School played Henley Cricket Club and there was a block fixtures against Pangbourne College.

Rowing

Marlow Regatta

This weekend the senior boys took part in the Marlow Regatta, held at Eton Dorney Lake.

For the Year 9 A boat it was their first ever 2k side by side and they finished off their season on a high, beating some very strong opposition. They finished 4th out of 8 boats and had their best race of the year.

The Senior boys' quad qualified for the C final in their time trial. They then went on to put together a very good race in their final and finished 2nd.

The 3rd 8 finished 5th in the Junior 2nd Eights category, gaining valuable experience. Congratulations to H Brough for stepping into this crew and gaining valuable experience.

The 2nd 8 took their revenge on Radley who beat them to gold at the National Schools' Regatta, by beating them by a margin of 3 seconds in the Junior Eights A final. They finished 3rd over all, only 0.4 seconds off second place.

The 1st 8 raced in the Senior Open Eights event and qualified for the B final. They had the best race of their season so far, winning the B final and in doing so beating St Edward's, the National Schools' silver medalists. The eight rowed a 2k time of 5:47.7, which is the fastest 2k a Shiplake crew has ever done in competition.

Henley Women's Regatta

The girls' squad competed at Henley Women's Regatta. We had three crews racing, a coxed four, double scull and quad.

On Saturday morning all three crews finished in the top four in their time trials meaning they progressed straight to the quarter-finals on Sunday.

The coxed four of C Green, G Hallmann, E Webb, H Boddy and M Walker (cox), raced hard against LEH but lost to them by a boat length in the quarter-final.

The double of M Jackson and M Hadfield beat George Herriot's School by 3/4 of a length in the quarter final. They then raced Sydney Rowing Club in the semi-final and despite racing very well, Sydney were able to out power our double. The Sydney crew then went on to win in the event.

The quad kept up their winning ways and managed to repeat the historical win from last year. Retaining the Bea Langridge trophy for the second year in impressive style. Congratulations to M Vickerman, M Oakes, J Weir and S Maleham for this incredible performance. We hope you can keep the momentum going into Henley Royal Regatta.

Well done to all crews racing this weekend.

Good luck to the Girls' 8, the Boys 1st and 2nd Temple 8 and the Boys Quad who will all race at the Henley Royal Regatta Qualifiers on Friday. The Girls Quad and Boys 1st 8 have pre-qualified for the regatta.

Cricket

On Friday there were two very enjoyable games against Henley CC on a glorious summer's evening at Shiplake. The Lower School narrowly lost both games but there were some excellent performances from the likes of I Doherty and C Cooper with the bat and spinners J Feltham and J Martin

On Saturday there was another outstanding performance by captain J Angell who scored his second century of the season. Shiplake were set 155 by Pangbourne and he finished the job with time to spare, a truly remarkable innings.

Mr Ralph was extremely pleased again with the performance of the U14As who enjoyed a comprehensive victory over Pangbourne. O Perkins top scored with 33 as Shiplake set 102 for the hosts to chase. In the second innings R Evans and F Holgate bowled superbly, taking tjree wickets each.
