In June, former Shiplake cricketers returned to the College for entertaining fixtures against the staff and current 1st XI.
On a glorious Friday evening, the staff and OVS enjoyed a closely-fought twenty20 contest which went down to the wire. Many old rivalries were resumed, including an entertaining father and son duel between College Housemaster Mr Nick Brown and his Old Viking son Ian. Staff skipper Mr Howorth won the toss and elected to bat first. Notable performances from Mr Miller and Mr Mallins peppered the prize-giving marquee and gave the staff a solid total to defend. However, the OVS batted sensibly in reply, and managed to hit the winning runs in the very last over.
On Saturday, the OVS batted first but struggled in the heat with tight bowling from the 1st XI restricting their run rate. Harry Ibbitson took 6 for 31 as the OVS were bowled out for 128 in 29 overs. OVS captain Sasha Burgess had a tough task rallying his troops in the field, but they were boosted by the return of pacey seamer Zac Jones.
However, wickets proved hard to come by and it took just 21 overs for the youngsters to chase down the modest total. Callum Boyd ended on 67 not out as the 1st XI secured a 7 wicket victory.
