On Friday 22 May students from across the school took the opportunity to participate in a lunchtime concert, gaining valuable experience playing in front of an attentive audience, in a relaxed environment.

Staff, fellow pupils and family members piled into the lecture theatre, all eagerly anticipating the performances. A variety of songs and musical renditions were the order of the afternoon, including a particularly entertaining version of Consider Yourself from Oliver! from Charlie Thomas. Amongst a variety of different pieces on a variety of different instruments, the audience enjoyed Cameron Bell’s a cappella version of a traditional Scottish folksong, Elliot Richards’ piano rendition of Alien Planet, and Jason Chan tackling a particularly difficult piece by Yiruma- expertly played without the aid of sheet music! Charley Scales impressed the audience with Ungar’s Ashokan Farewell on the violin, and James Davie gave a comprehensive performance of Banjo Bill on the guitar.

For some students, it was their first time performing for an audience. Nerves were banished as they took to the stage, inspiring the audience with the variety of talent on show.

Music teacher Mr Chris Ham was very impressed with the performances, saying that ‘the lunchtime concerts continue to motivate students to play in front of a live audience, overcoming any nerves and gaining beneficial experience, and important self-belief. Many thanks also to the pupils, staff members and family who came to see the concert; your support and encouragement is invaluable for the students.’
