On Tuesday 9 June, the Shiplake College Media Department hosted the first ever ‘Shiplake Oscars’- an evening designed to showcase and celebrate the practical work produced by pupils in both Year 12 and Year 13, with a number of awards being presented. The practical work is a part of each year’s coursework, and makes a significant contribution in the overall mark achieved by students in the subject. Dressed up in a tux, Head of Media Studies Mr Marcus Milburn had pulled out all the stops for the event.

An audience of students, friends and family packed into the Lecture Theatre for the inaugural event, ready to watch the range of film openings and music videos on the big screen for the first time.

Prizes were distributed across a range of categories such as 'Best Editing', 'Best Production Design' and 'Best Cinematography'. After watching all the videos, the winners were announced from a list of nominees. The big winners on the night were Cam Whitelaw, Zach Heppner-Logan, Louise French and Connor Cummings, who won 'Best Film' for their thriller Anonymous. Harry Chapples, Lucy Collings and Emily Holloway took home two awards for their music video Glory and Gore, by Lorde.

The winners for each category are listed below:

Mr Milburn explained that ‘the projects completed by Years 12 and 13 are collectively the strongest work I have seen in my time here so far. The main reason for such high quality has come from the creativity and enthusiasm of all the Media students this year. I’m already looking forward to next year’s projects!’
