The Business Studies Department is delighted to announce that the competition for the prestigious Headmaster's Business Award has officially been launched. Following on from the success of the inaugural awards, it has been decided that they will run for a second year. The Business Studies Department is working with the Media Studies Department to ensure the pupils can put together creative and innovative entries using the latest technology.

Head of Business Studies, and BTEC Quality Nominee Mr Andrew White and Head of Media Studies Mr Marcus Milburn launched the Award, to the Year 12 Business Students in the Eve Lecture Theatre, on Friday 22 January. At the launch, Mr Milburn gave a motivating and inspiring talk on developing a good Business Documentary, to help enthuse them in the task they need to complete.

Year 12 and 13 Business students have been set two different tasks. The Year 12 cohort has been challenged with developing a suitable and effective ‘Marketing Mix’ for a specific product from Gucci that targets a particular customer base. The Year 13 group has to develop a ‘Promotional Campaign’ for a Nike product that exists today. The students ultimately have to develop the business tasks into a documentary which will be submitted to the judges. These challenges also meet part of the BTEC Business assessment criteria for Unit 3 Marketing and Unit 9 Creative Product Promotion.

The Awards are supported by both departments, Media and Business, who will select the top six documentaries, three from Year 12 and three from Year 13. These shortlisted videos will be put forward for the highly coveted Headmaster's Business Award. This year there will be around 90 documentaries from which to choose. The six shortlisted nominees will have to present to the judging panel their concepts and the ideas that they formulated to create their ‘Business task idea’. The nominees will then introduce their finished documentary.

The panel of judges will see Headmaster Mr Gregg Davies, Governor and entrepreneur Mr Jonathan Hobbs, Head of Economics Mr Darius Bluck, Director of Marketing and External Relations Mrs Katherine Green, Business Teacher Mr David Rose, Business and Economics Teacher Mr Kevin Bloor join Mr Milburn and Mr White.

Best of luck to the Business Studies pupils!
