The end of the spring term brought much-anticipated house events; pupils took part in house hockey, netball and rowing. Each pupil was part of the events, making the most of the beautiful weather outside. There was a mixture of results for the Houses across the different sport, but everyone had an energetic afternoon.
The inter-house netball saw most of the girls donning the colours of their houses and heading up to the Welsh House courts in order to play friends and classmates in the sport. Head of Netball Miss Chloe Mordue commented: ‘all the girls played really well and it was a great afternoon! Two girls from Welsh had to fill in for other houses, and they were great sports about it – showing how inclusive the afternoon was!’ After a number of quick matches, with some great defending, the results were:
- 1st – Orchard
- 2nd – Skipwith
- 3rd – Burr
- 4th – Everett
House hockey was also taking place. Head of Hockey Mr Tom Walter commented: ‘the senior house hockey was played in great spirit on a warm Wednesday afternoon. There were a number of closely fought games, with goals galore and it went down to the wire. Skipwith retained the trophy this year, much to the delight of Housemaster Alex Duncan, but this time it was Skipwith Eggar, and not Skipwith Wells-Furby, who managed to get their hands on the trophy. A big thank you to Dr Snellgrove who kept track of the scores and to the Housemasters to who marshalled the side lines to keep the games flowing quickly!’
Down by the river, house rowing was underway. Director of Rowing Mr David Currie provides the following report: ‘the House Head rounds up what has been a successful term of Head of the River rowing. Five houses took battle over the 2km course down the Thames. Crews had to navigate safely through the islands, finishing in front of the Boathouse. The results are below:
