Drama Examinations

Seven Shiplake pupils were awarded their LAMDA certificates this week after performing two dramatic pieces and deconstructing another.

Shiplake College offers qualifications from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and has done for the past year. LAMDA is a well-established grade-based qualification, and is similar to the grading system for musical instruments starting at level one through to level eight. The College is considered an examination centre where a visiting moderator comes to assess the candidates. They then receive feedback in the form of a feedback sheet and are awarded a grade within a few weeks. The programme continues to entice more and more pupils to get involved and this year, seven pupils have already taken their examinations.

From Year 8, Jamie King received his Grade 4 after achieving a Distinction, while Fenn Hewitt of Year 11 passed his Grade 5 exam, as did Henry Finnegan in the same Year. Meanwhile, Casper Good of Year 10, William Kayll and William Mandondo of Year 11 all earned their Grade 6 with a Merit and two Distinctions. Joe Szweda, however, has gone above and beyond and has achieved his Grade 8, the highest Grade achievable.

This is the first group of pupils who have received their certificates as the course has only been offered since last academic year’s Summer Term. For more information on the LAMDA classes, or to get involved yourself, please click here.
