At the end of the Spring Term, our A-level drama pupils performed admirably for the practical component of their examination and, at the start of the Summer Term, our GCSE drama pupils looked to do the same!
On Tuesday 18 April, after many days of practising and rehearsing, the group of 20 GCSE drama pupils took to the stage in their pairings and groups for their practical examination. With an external marker in attendance, our pupils put their nerves to the side and delivered their lines and acts excellently.
For the 'Performing from a Text' component, which is 20% of their overall grade, the pupils must choose a text that comes from a time-period different to the one they are studying as a set text for the written exam. The great thing about this component is that other than the time-period restriction, the students have complete freedom to choose a text that suits their skills, ability and preferences in performance styles. Because of this there was a varied programme this year, from serious pieces like An Inspector Calls followed by a hilarious interpretation of John Godber's Bouncers, which had everyone in the audience crying with laughter.
Speaking after the examination, Head of Drama Mrs Farrell said:
‘As a teacher, it is great to see the pupils perform in this component as it is the reason many choose to study GCSE drama - to be on stage in character and enjoying themselves. We have been so delighted to see how committed every group has been, coming in during the Easter holidays to practise together and get their performances just right. It really paid off and I have no doubt that the examiner was as thoroughly entertained as we were. Well done boys!’
