Shiplake is celebrating an excellent set of GCSE results, achieving well above those from 2019 when the last public GCSEs examinations took place, with the percentage of grades at 9-4 matching the 97% received from last year’s Teacher Assessed Grades. 60% of grades were 9-6 and 35% grades 9-7, compared to 42% and 24% in 2019 respectively, both also above the 56% and 33% awarded via Centre Assessed Grades in 2020.
Headmaster, Tyrone Howe, comments: “I could not be happier with this outstanding set of results and I am hugely proud of the pupils who rightly should be celebrating today. The vast majority achieved the grades required for them to study their Sixth Form subjects of choice and I am particularly pleased to see the number of top-end grades 9-7 increasing. These results reflect a huge amount of work from the pupils who have risen to the challenge faced over the last two years, as well as the consistent high level of support given to them by their teachers. I have no doubt the quality of the remote lessons and academic and pastoral engagement during the pandemic has contributed to minimal disruption in learning for these pupils. Despite the rain this morning, there were smiles galore and we look forward to continuing this momentum from the start of next term.”
Congratulations to the following individuals who received the highest number of top grades: B Zacharias; Ed Houghton; Silas Lee; Alex Tang; A Veitch; Monty Walker; Monty Wallace; and O Wrobel. Congratulations also to Sena Hughes in Year 8 who received a grade 8 in Japanese GCSE.
The average value-added score, measured in relation to national base-line testing in Year 9, is 0.54 which is over half a grade. Departmentally, English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, Drama and Art all achieved 100% grades 9-5, with 80% of Music and 83% of Drama pupils receiving grades 9-6.
