Yesterday afternoon saw 374 pupils run in Shiplake’s annual House cross-country event.

Starting at 3.00pm, the Front Field became a field of colour as nearly 400 pupils from Year 7 to Year 13 took part in the 4.7km run. Triathlon star Adam Hunt (Year 11) completed the course in just 17 minutes and 38 seconds, winning this year’s event for Orchard Bevan and setting a new School record.

In second place, and less than 20 seconds after Adam, came Year 13 Joe Kerrison of Welsh House. He ran the course in 17 minutes, 55 seconds. Just 30 seconds after that, was Rhys Ash of Year 12 Orchard Lapping. He completed the cross-country challenge in 18 minutes, 34 seconds. Just two years ago, Rhys achieved the winning time for the Juniors, finishing the course in 20 minutes, 7 seconds.

From the Lower School, Year 8 Finn Suter of Titans finished in just 21 minutes, 18 seconds followed by Daniel Coles (22 minutes, 25 seconds) and Oliver Renwick (24 minutes, 4 seconds), both from Year 8.

From Gilson House, Year 13 Olivia Morgan took the top spot with a time of 22 minutes, 28 seconds. Shortly after came Beatrice Hooley, who finished in 23 minutes, 54 seconds and Deputy Head of College Sophia Hahn completed in 25 minutes, 34 seconds.

Also among the runners was teacher of mathematics Mr Mackworth-Praed, history teacher Mr McCraw and rowing coach Mr Jenkins. Organiser and Burr Assistant Housemaster Mr Miller said, ‘Many thanks and congratulations to those who put their full effort in and their best self forward in the race yesterday’.
