We are delighted that we can welcome all pupils back to Shiplake College on Monday 8 March.
There has been lots of work going on behind the scenes to ensure a smooth transition for pupils back to 'live' learning. We realise for some this might be an anxious time so we will be putting in place lots of things to help settle pupils back in.
We will be encouraging pupils to re-connect with their peers and there will be informal sessions in tutor times and during lessons to allow pupils to chat and catch-up. Linked to this we will be following a brilliant programme by mental health charity Place2Be and will theme the remaining four weeks of term against four key areas - self efficacy, gratitude, hope and connectedness. These will be explored during PHSEE lessons and tutor periods.
In addition our usual support networks will be available for any pupil who wants to talk things through - The Rev, Deputy Head Pastoral, Tutors, House Staff, Prefects and Chapel Wardens. Our school counsellor will also be holding drop-in sessions for pupils.
We ask that families help by talking about the transition before the return to school. We know that some pupils will be nervous and reluctant to return. Anything that can be done to reassure them at home is invaluable. Talk about feelings, concerns and emotions but also routine. Starting to change routines at home to reflect the imminent change will be very helpful. Encourage children to get up a bit earlier, get their clothes ready the night before and pack their bags. Little things like this will, for some, be major changes. There is a wealth of information on the Young Minds website along with advice and ideas.

If goes without saying that all teachers and staff are really looking forward to welcoming pupils back on 8 March.
