Today is Ascension Day, a very important day to reflect on the past and think about new beginnings for our Year 13 students who are about to leave Shiplake for the next chapter in their lives.

So, every year on the 40th day of Easter, our Year 13 pupils and pastoral staff make an early morning pilgrimage to Maidensgrove Common, considered the highest point in the area around Henley, for a very important 'moving on' event. At 6.30am today, a group of Year 13s and staff headed to the picturesque hamlet in Stonor valley.

Revd Chris Briggs, said: "Members of Year 13 gathered at Maidensgrove for our annual Ascension Day celebration.

We heard the story of the Ascension together with some prayers, including prayers for those taking examinations and making important steps into the future towards university, college, apprenticeships and work.

We then blew bubbles for our prayers to rise and also for our anxieties and regrets to disperse. This was followed by a very competitive games of rounders and then breakfast together."
