It was our second Saturday Sport session of the year following lockdown with Year 9 playing a rotation of matches and Year 11 having a go at Aussie Rules Football. In assembly on Monday, on the back of the Six Nations Tournament, the winner of the pupils' Guinness Six Nations Fantasy League was announced.
Year 9 Football
The Year 9s had another great morning of sport with a rotation of matches and lightning soccer with Mr Miller. There was some superb defending from J Bizior, some lovely mid-field work from J McFarlane, I Hobden and D Higgins and the outstanding performance was from J Morley, who scored a cracker of a goal.
Rugby
Some of the teachers and pupils took part in the Guinness Six Nations Fantasy League and the top three pupils are as follows; in third place, well done to Year 9 Everett pupil, Ben Stokes; in second place, great effort from Year 12 Welsh pupil, Sam Bourke; and in first place and winning a replica Six Nations shirt, is Year 10 Skipwith pupil, Jacob Reed.
Year 11 Aussie Rules Football
This week, the Year 11 rugby pupils have been learning Aussie Rules Football (AFL) run by Mr Armstrong. They have learnt how to punt, how to hand pass and the big finale on Saturday morning was the reds versus the yellows.
After numerous goals and attack from the defending play, the reds were more accurate. With less than 10 minutes left the reds were 14 points to one up. A controversial transfer of J Rogers from the reds to the yellows and two quick 5 point goals that he added brought the yellow team back into the game as they went into the final minutes. Sadly too little too late, the yellows lost out 14-11 to the reds. It was a lovely Saturday morning and gave the players the opportunity to show off some new skills. Man of the match went to C Moss.
