Year 11 pupils were treated to art lessons with a twist during their transition to Sixth Form this week. Students who are interested in studying art at A Level were invited along to take part in a group project to see how art works in the Sixth Form.
Mrs Thomas wanted to make the sessions fun and interesting and encourage the pupils to try out new skills and techniques. So, inspired by the artist Chuck Close, they were challenged to create a large scale portrait of a well-known member of staff using only their thumb prints!
Chuck Close is known for creating large scale portraits from photographs using finger prints, stamp pad ink, pastels, graphite and much more.
The students worked in three groups creating thumb print portraits of Mr Brown, Mr Curran and The Rev.
Mrs Thomas, said: "The staff involved were delighted and honoured to see their large scale portraits. I was really impressed with the students' attitude, teamwork and ability on this challenging task.
"They were super and should be very proud! We will display the work in the Great Hall in September for all to see."
