Academic Examinations

Shiplake’s Year 11 pupils collected their GCSE results this morning, many coming into school to celebrate their success and catch up with friends and teachers.

Despite a number of subjects being sampled as part of the external quality-assurance process there were no changes to the TAGs (Teacher Assessed Grades) that were submitted by the school. 27% of grades were 9-8, 47% of grades 9-7, 69% grades 9-6 and 97% grades 9-4.

Congratulations to Matt Grundy who received eight 9s and two 8s, Jamie King for his seven 9s and one 8 and an A* in his HPQ (Higher Project Qualification), and Gordon Fitzgerald for three 9s and five 8s and an A in his HPQ. Matt, Jamie and Gordon all joined Shiplake in Year 7, along with another seven of the top performers. Otis Button, Oliver Dee, Jett Dyason, Sam Gillen, Fergus Heggie and Joe Rogers achieved all grades 9-7s. Taj Angell, Toby Broadbent, Brody Burnett, Luke Byca, Freddie Middleton, Zac Morrison and James Perry received 9-6 grades.

Headmaster, Tyrone Howe, comments “Congratulations to all the pupils for excellent exam results which reflect the focus and strong work ethic that they have shown throughout all the challenges and disruption. They responded well to the need to work hard over a long period in order to provide their teachers with strong evidence of their abilities and performance. While we are aware of the national figures reflecting overall grade inflation, there is no doubt that our particular pupils have benefited from the sustained commitment and professionalism that the Shiplake staff have shown over this period. Thank you to those academic teachers and Heads of Departments who worked so hard in the collection of evidence and preparation of TAGs. The process added additional pressure on top of everything else, but as we have done throughout, everyone responded so positively and all that hard work has paid off. In short, it has been a superb effort from everyone.”
