An exciting new art competition for all Shiplake pupils and staff was launched by Year 11 Art Scholar, Monty Walker in Whole School Assembly this week.

And, it's an art competition with a twist - it's a miniature art competition! Pupils and staff have been invited to create their masterpieces in miniature on tiny canvases that will then be displayed for all to see on tiny easels.

With a nod to the release of the latest James Bond film, in his address to the school on Monday, Monty said: "No time to die - time to draw. My name's Walker, Monty Walker. It's time to go wild - go crazy - go all creative. It's the Shiplake College Art Competition 2021. This year we've gone large by going small - miniature canvases for big ideas. If you are a potential Picasso, a wannabe Warhol or a maybe Matisse - or even if you just like a doodle, everyone is welcome to enter even you Mr Howe or should I call you M?

"Collect your mini canvas from the Art Department, and create using any media you choose with entries to be submitted by Monday 1 November.

"And now the important bit you could win money, fame, fortune, adoration, you will become attractive beyond measure. Enter now and remember - small is the new big."

Pupils and staff are invited to come up to the Art Office at the top of the John Turner building to sign up and get your mini canvas.

Mrs Keli Thomas, Head of Art. said: "This could be a fantastic half-term activity! You could paint, draw, print, stitch, collage, photograph etc onto your canvas. Prizes are to be won and all the paintings will be put up in an Art Exhibition later this year.

"We are also opening the Art Department from 4.30pm - 5.30pm on Tuesdays if you would like to come and paint your canvas then. We will provide the materials and the teachers will be on hand to help. Here is a link to some excellent ideas to get you started!"
