We have been celebrating all things Maths over the last few weeks with National Pi Day on 14 March and World Maths Day on 23 March.

Firstly on Pi Day, Mr Geyton challenged pupils to memorise and then recite as many places of Pi as they could. Pupils were invited to the Lecture Theatre at lunchtime to see how far their memories would take them.

Congratulations to Nikita Saitov who remembered an impressive 150 place values, L Liu who remembered 104 and Felix Arkle who remembered 74 place values in reverse!

On World Maths Day Head of Maths, Mr Curtis invited houses to an Inter-House Times Tables Challenge. Houses were asked to nominate their best maths brains to take part in a race against time to answer as many times tables questions as they could which were randomly generated on a laptop. The winning pupils in each year group are as follows:

  • Year 7: Harry Biggs
  • Year 8: Sam Murray and Noah Thurgood
  • Year 9: James Man
  • Year 10: Harry Gallagher
  • Year 11: Ed Houghton
  • Year 12: Max Noble*
  • Year 13: Sam Waller

*Max was the top scorer with an impressive 330 points.

The overall house winners of the maths challenge were Orchard.
