Many congratulations to our senior mathematics students who received awards in the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust's Senior Mathematical Challenge at the end of last term. Overall we received one Gold Award, seven Silver Awards and 12 Bronze Awards.
The challenge promotes a love of problem solving and is a 90-minute, multiple-choice challenge.
It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.
The problems on the Senior Mathematical Challenge are designed to make students think. Most are accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience.
Mr Richard Curtis, Head of Mathematics, said: "It was really pleasing to see a record number of pupils receiving Senior Challenge certificates this year; testament to the hard work of both pupils and teachers in acquiring and delivering more problem solving skills.
"We are all especially proud of Sam Waller's achievements; a Gold Award and the highest score from a Shiplake College pupil in the last 20 years."
All pupils received their certificates from the Headmaster in the Whole School Assembly last week.
