A selection of male teaching staff and Year 13 pupils in College House have completed the Movember charity challenge. For the entire month of November, the group of young (and not so young) men grew moustaches to raise awareness and money for male health charities including prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems.
Since its introduction in 2004, the initiative has grown in popularity and in 2013 the UK campaign alone raised in excess of £20million. This year, the Headmaster invited pupils and staff to take part. Fifteen embraced the challenge, including Housemasters Mr Mallins and Mr Curtis. Each participant contributed a minimum of £20 to the fundraising pot, while several set up their own online Movember profiles to attract additional sponsorship. The final total is set to grow further in the coming days but has already exceeded £400.
The emphasis of the month was placed on participation rather than competition, but respect should go to Head of Media Mr Milburn for achieving the most impressive staff 'tache', with Adib Wain edging the pupils' category. We hope this inspires many more participants to step forward next year and challenge for these prestigious accolades!
