Year 13 pupil Phil Green has been awarded a Royal Air Force cadet flying scholarship, which will see him head up to Dundee in order to attend the Air Cadet Pilot Scheme. Phil is a Cadet Sergeant within the RAF section of the Shiplake CCF.
A highly sought after and prestigious scholarship, Phil has done extremely well to be given the opportunity to attend the academy, which offers young enthusiasts up to 35 hours of training at the wheel of a light aircraft. The scholarship is open to young adults involved with the ACO, GVCAC and Air Scouts/Air Explorer Scouts, who have shown exceptional commitment to the RAF Association.
The two week course, which takes place in Dundee, aims to enable a student to fly a solo sortie. The syllabus covers the tuition needed to obtain a National Private Pilot’s Licence, so the sky really is the limit for the cadets! The potential to launch a career as a pilot in the RAF, the Royal Navy, Army or commercial airlines is well within reach following the course. The position is highly coveted, and Phil has done exceptionally well to ascertain the place. Instructor of CCF Mr Steve Macpherson said of the accomplishment that ‘it is well deserved and reflects the hard work and support which Phil has demonstrated during his time in the CCF here. We wish him the very best of luck with the course, and any ‘high-flying’ career he may pursue afterwards!’
