With the Easter Holidays fast approaching we bring you a round-up of all things ‘Shiplake’ that you can get involved in to keep you busy:

#ShiplakeAtHome

Create a fun video on something that interests you for the Headmaster’s weekly #ShiplakeAtHome video.

The video should be no longer than 30 seconds and can be about anything that interests you. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Performing a magic trick
  • Performing a sports skill/trick
  • Interesting facts on your favourite subject
  • Reading your favourite poem
  • Performing your favourite song
  • A review of your favourite book
  • The first thing you’ll do when you get out of lockdown and why
  • Top tips on what to do during your time at home
  • Introducing your pet and some interesting facts
  • A cookery demo
  • A science demo

Please send your video entries to [email protected] and keep a look out for your starring role! And remember if you are sharing anything Shiplake related on social media remember to use the #ShiplakeAtHome hashtag so we can keep up to speed with everything you are doing.

Academic Enrichment Activities

In addition to the specific holiday work and revision set by teachers on Google Classroom, please find a collection of academic enrichment activities suggested by subject and key stage. We would love for pupils to continue to share their work with teachers and if possible, do share work online using the hashtags #ShiplakeAtHome and #ShiplakeLearning.

Shiplake Virtual Park Run on Strava - First Meeting Saturday 4 April

Park Run is a running community which meets every Saturday to complete a 5km run. With such a great community at Shiplake College, we thought it would be great to create our own club made of both Old Vikings and present staff, students and parents. To launch the club, join us for a virtual park run on Saturday 4 April and upload your activity to our Shiplake Club on Strava. You can run at any time and over any distance - the aim of our first virtual park run is simply to get people active! You will be able to compare your activity to your friends and Strava automatically generates a leaderboard.

To join us on Strava, go to the Clubs section and simply search for Shiplake College, or follow this link, and click join. We hope to 'see' as many of you as possible!

PE Department Daily Challenge

If you missed the PE department’s daily challenges this week, keep your sports skills up to scratch by following their Twitter feed and having a go over the Easter holidays. We would love to see you complete the challenges!

Business Students

Have a go at the Peter Jones Foundation weekly Tycoon Challenge.

For Music Maestros

Mr Curran has set his Year 7 class a symphonic challenge and is inviting all pupils to join in.

The challenge is to compose a short piece for the orchestral instrument you are currently learning and upload it to Flipgrid.

If you have an instrument at home and fancy a challenge why don't you compose a short piece and upload it too. Year 7 will then be able to view the fruits of your labour.

For those of you who don't have an instrument but would like to join in, you can find kitchen utensils and compose with other members of your household.

Lastly, for the competitive souls amongst you and for the purpose of mastery, once you've composed your piece, why don't you try to:

  • add structure to it (e.g. ABA/ chorus-verse-chorus, etc)
  • add dynamic shaping (loud and quiet, etc)
  • add repetition (repetition will make it catchy)

Co-curricular Activities

The co-curricular team has set up a list of weekly activities to keep you active and interested during the time at home. They include a fun list of things to do over the week, as well as ideas for a daily photo. It would be great if you could share your activities with us for the #ShiplakeAtHome video.

Suggested activities from 3 April are:

April Art Challenge

All pupils will have received an email from Mr Ramsay to get involved in the April Art Challenge. The idea is to spend 10 minutes creating a sketch that you think fits the daily theme. You then upload it to Twitter and tag @ShiplakeArt for a retweet, or email it to [email protected] if you're not on Twitter! Check out the Department's Twitter page each day for the daily theme - Saturday 4 April's is 'Something that Flies'! We are looking forward to seeing some amazing works of art.

Be Thankful

Take some time to reflect and post your #Shiplake3GoodThings on your social media accounts every day or when the mood suits you.
