This Co-Curricular Spotlight covers the recently established Film Club and Mindfulness Colouring lub, and revisits the popular Art and Sound Recording Clubs. This term, we will be exploring more of the fantastic Co-Curricular clubs that we offer our pupils; including Journalism, Debating and CCF, among dozens more.
Film Club
The recently established Film Club is held in the Lecture Theatre, and club members will be encouraged to think critically and analytically about the films they are watching in order to understand their place in modern culture. Up first will be Vertigo by the late, great Alfred Hitchcock. After watching the films presented, those attending the club will produce verbal and written reviews, covering the themes, historical context and their own opinions.
Art Club
Held in, you guessed it, the Art classrooms, Mrs Thomas and Miss Hallam host the Art Club to provide their own GCSE and A Level pupils additional time to work on coursework, final projects and portfolios, while also allowing pupils who do not study art to try their hand at it. Beginners can make use of the fantastic art space, use materials and the expert knowledge of our brilliant Art Department.
Sound Recording Club
Hosted by Mr Ward, Sound Recording Club allows beginners and students of GCSE, A Level and BTEC Music to use facilities such as the recording studio, musical instruments and editing software. Of course, pupils can also use Sound Recording Club for their own performances and portfolios, while also allowing inexperienced musicians to practice using professional software.
Mindfulness Colouring Club
Mindfulness Colouring Club has only three rules: no devices, no schoolwork and no talking. These rules, alongside the pens and sheets provided by Mr Woolner, make for a peaceful, focused environment in which members of the club can unwind, while momentarily leaving behind the stresses of teenagehood.
