Last Tuesday, ten of our Year 9 and 10 pupils, accompanied by Mr Ebbage and Mr Dickey, travelled to the neighbouring Queen Anne’s School for their annual Model United Nations (MUN) Conference.

MUN is an academic activity in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. The activity is currently offered to pupils on a co-curricular basis, and encourages academic competition between local schools.

Teacher of Politics, Mr Dickey said: “Our students faced some tough competition at the event, including some fiery exchanges in the committee rooms. Despite this, they performed exceptionally well, especially considering  this was their first MUN competition. This is the second time that Shiplake has fielded candidates at a MUN conference during this academic year. We just keep getting better and better. Our boys truly did do us proud!"

Following the event, J Miller was awarded a certificate for his outstanding performance in public speaking during the General Assembly round. J King and J Perry got through to the second round at committee stage and their resolution secured five signatures from other delegates, which is apparently no easy feat!
