Shiplake’s Anti-Bullying Ambassadors have put together a video to raise awareness of bullying with advice on what to do to help a peer who may be experiencing difficulties.
The video forms part of their campaign to keep anti-bullying awareness at the forefront of pupils’ minds, and features their new catchy strapline - Be Kind, Words Don’t Rewind - which will continue to be pushed out around the College.
The video starts with the stark statistics on bullying in the UK, including calls to Childline, cyber bullying and the impact bullying has on self esteem.
The Ambassadors then offer advice on how to help a friend who may be having problems and how to help them to come up with their own solutions to the situation.
James Burgess, Anti-Bullying Ambassador, said: “The video came about at the beginning of the term when we as a group of Anti-Bullying Ambassadors had a discussion on how we can raise awareness this term.
“We decided on a video because it was going to be something most of us could get involved in and others around the school.
“We have also so far this year run a campaign to get the whole school to sign a flag to raise awareness of anti-bullying which we then put up on the Skipwith Tower.
“We also did an odd socks day which was a nationally recognised way of raising awareness of anti-bullying.”
Along with the video, the ambassadors have set up an email address [email protected] for pupils and staff to email them with any questions they may have as well as an Instagram account @ShiplakeAntiBullying. to keep pupils, parents and staff up to date with the work they are doing.
The ambassadors are now working on a set of values for a Shiplake Anti-Bullying Charter.
