Shiplake pupils were victorious in the College's second competitive virtual 'fixture' last week, the opponents this time being St Benedict’s School.
For this race, participants were asked to run 3km (instead of the 5km raced against Radley) between 6.00am on Wednesday and 6.00pm on Thursday, with winners announced for U14, U16 and U18 categories, as well as the winning school overall.
Race adjudicator, Head of PE, Mr Tom Walter, reveals the final scores:
Under 14s
We were pipped to the post in this category. Despite Shiplake beating St Benedict’s with an average of 18 minutes 45 seconds versus 21 minutes 12 seconds to our rivals, St Benedict's scored the most points as they had the top three fastest runners and the greatest participation percentage.
Shiplake 3 - 9 St Benedict's
Under 16s
Despite losing points by having a lower participation rate in this group, our top three runners were very fast and scored the extra points by making up the top three overall. Well done to T Lebeau (9.54), E Houghton (10.12) and M Walker (11.34).
Shiplake 9 - 3 St Benedict's
Under 18s
With the total scores tied at this point, the U18 category made a decisive difference to the overall result. Our average time was lower, scoring three points, and we had two runners in the top three. Well done to A Hunt (9.52) and M Waring (10.47), for helping to scoop these extra points, with Hunt winning the category.
Shiplake 7- 5 St Benedict's
Overall School Results
With just two points separating the schools, the whole school category was going to decide the winner. Shiplake lost out on three points with lower participation overall, but we scored the fastest average time across all three categories combined, as well as having the top three runners overall - Hunt, Lebeau and Houghton.
Shiplake 9 - 3 St Benedict’s
The overall points result was Shiplake 28 - 20 St Benedict's.
Well done to everyone who took part! We are looking forward to our next fixture!
