The Drama Department is celebrating the start of term with a brand new refurbished drama studio.

The performance space, which has always suited the physical theatre style produced by thespians at Shiplake, is now even more versatile and can be used to adapt to the different needs of the all year groups. Whether it is for rehearsals or performances involving larger numbers in the younger years, or for the devised pieces produced by the smaller GCSE and A Level pupils, the now fit-for-purpose studio is looking absolutely fantastic.

The Tithe Barn Theatre has had a complete overhaul with the following new additions:

  • New lighting and sound system which can be controlled from the lighting box (or from a lighting panel in the studio)
  • New black curtains to create a 'black box' effect
  • A properly defined performance area with stage curtains which will open and close to mark the beginning of each act, and the beginning and end of a play
  • Fresh paint on the walls and floor to create an area where pupils can work on performances together and get involved in drama games and workshops
